Is Loading Your Explainer Video with Data a Mistake?

I’ve noticed a trend among many bright minds in tech and science: a rush to fill explainer videos with as much information as possible. It’s understandable; when you're passionate about your work, you want to share every bit of it. But here's the thing — drowning your audience in data might make your message harder to grasp, not clearer.

Consider the power of a narrative that doesn’t just list facts but tells a compelling story. This is where your explainer video can truly shine. It's not about leaving out complexity but about highlighting your message in a way that resonates. A well-crafted story engages the heart and the mind, paving the way for a deeper understanding and connection.

To really make your ideas resonate and linger, think beyond the facts. How can your video not only inform but also inspire and influence? Crafting a narrative that touches your audience emotionally, sparks curiosity, and perhaps even changes their viewpoint is the key. It’s about creating a memorable journey that leaves a lasting impression.

I invite you to rethink how you tell your story. Instead of listing every detail and data point, consider what you want your audience to feel and remember. What’s the core message or insight you want to leave them with? Start there, and you might find your presentations (and explainer videos) will become easier to create and will be much more powerful in their impact. I'll leave you with a case study: Here's an example of a story that presents very few scientific facts, but puts an emphasis on an idea- small organelles need to be studied more:
